The landlady Continued + What is the land lady inspired by

The sweet smile was now showing far too often. Billy hesitated to reply, and question her further on the absence of guests in her beautiful bed and Breakfast, but decided that could cause further conversations with the Lady. Billy remembered of his meeting the next morning, “I’m sorry but I must be off to bed now” he said. Taking one last sip of his tea he stood up nervously. The landlady kept quiet however she continued to admire him with her gentle smile. After taking a few steps to the door, billy started to feel very dizzy, and  stumbled. He didn’t make it all the way up the stairs, the landlady’s wrinkly hand grabbed him.  By the minute he started to feel worse and worse. The lady was still holding him up and within 3 minutes he collapsed. The landlady watched over him as her plans were falling into place.

I think ‘The Landlady’ is a continuation of the tradition of stories about women as witches. The story gives away many hints about this, because of the way the Landlady does everything for a reason. The way she acted and the things she said to Billy are not normal, and her behaviour around him was always suspicious. This can tell us a lot about what the story is about and how this was very common behaviour back then.
